The Chellanam coastal village, which is the most severe Covid-19 containment zone in Ernakulam (Kerala, India) has been hit by the worst sea erosion of this year on Sunday.

The panchayat is home to over 50,000 people, of which around 10,000 live along the 17.5 km-long coast.
The residents have been asking the government to construct a strong sea wall along the coast. Geobags and tubes are no match for the fury of the sea.

But it seems like the government has been successfully pushing this matter under the rug.

Chellanam, reeling under COVID spread, now hit by flooding.
The coastal village of Chellanam, already under a lockdown till Monday to contain COVID-19 spread, saw heavy flooding on Sunday that brought down a house and severely damaged 10 others.
There are dozens of bedridden people in some areas where flooding is severe, said Joseph Arakkal of Velankanni, an area where sea walls have virtually collapsed, allowing high waves to wash into homes.

Double whammy for Kerala: Rough sea floods Chellanam.
The erosion is likely to continue as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warning of high waves in the range of 3.5-3.8m till 11.30pm on Monday along the coast of Kerala from Pozhiyoor to Kasargod. People are protesting as their pleas to the government to create strong seawall before the monsoons were ignored multiple times.
